What is TASSA approval and why does it matter?

TASSA isn't a brand, it's the UK's installer registration body. Here's what it actually means and why your insurer might ask.

TASSA stands for Tracking and Aftermarket Security Systems Association. It's the body that approves and registers UK installers of vehicle security systems — Ghost immobilisers, S5 trackers, OBD locks, the lot.

Why insurers care

When you tell your insurer 'I had a Ghost fitted', they want proof it was fitted by a competent installer using genuine parts. A TASSA registration on the central database is that proof.

What you receive

After every install at our Cambridge workshop we register the vehicle, install date, system serial number and installer ID with TASSA. You get a certificate and the record stays on the database for the life of the car.

If you ever sell the car, the new owner can transfer it. If you ever claim, your insurer can verify it in 30 seconds.
