Common questions Cambridge drivers ask about car theft
Pulled together from a year of customer phone calls at our Cambridge workshop. If you're worried about your car being stolen, you're probably asking one of these.
Is my car a target?
Most-stolen models in Cambridgeshire (last 18 months): Range Rover Sport/Velar, BMW M cars, Ford Fiesta ST, Mercedes C-Class, Audi RS3, Defender. If you own one, layer up.
Will a steering lock help?
Yes. Visible deterrents work. A thief deciding between two cars on a dark street will almost always pick the one without.
Are Faraday pouches enough?
Against relay attacks: yes. Against OBD attacks (smashed window, plug-in programmer): no. Layer with a Ghost or OBD lock.
Will my insurance pay out if it's stolen?
Comprehensive policies cover theft. But you must keep both keys (a missing key is grounds for refusing the claim). Always declare where the car is parked overnight.
Do I need a tracker AND a Ghost?
For high-value cars: yes. Ghost prevents the theft, tracker recovers if they get past it (they almost certainly won't, but layered defence is the point).
How long after fitting before I'm protected?
Immediately. The Ghost is active the moment we hand the keys back. Tracker activation takes 24h while it pairs with the monitoring centre.
