How much does an ECU remap cost in Cambridge?

Quotes for an 'ECU remap' in Cambridge range from £199 to £799. Here's what's actually different — and what's just a markup.

Stage 1 — typical Cambridge price range

£249–£449 depending on car and tuner. The cheap end is usually a generic 'eBay map' from a database. The mid-range is a bespoke or vehicle-specific custom map. The top end usually includes pre/post diagnostic, dyno verification and a written warranty.

Stage 2 — typical Cambridge price range

£399–£699, plus the cost of the bolt-ons themselves (intake, exhaust, intercooler). Make sure the price includes a custom map for your specific hardware combination, not just a stock Stage 2 file.

Economy / MPG remap — typical price range

£199–£349. Realistic gain on diesel: 4–10% MPG on a long, steady run. Less than that on a stop-start city commute. Honest tuners will tell you that not every car benefits enough to justify the cost.

What should be included

  • Pre-remap diagnostic scan (free fault check before they touch anything).
  • Original/stock map saved and given to you on USB.
  • Vehicle-specific custom map, not a generic database file.
  • Modification certificate for your insurer.
  • Lifetime free re-flash if anything changes (e.g. ECU update from a dealer visit wipes the tune).

Red flags to walk away from

  • Won't give you the original map.
  • Generic 'one map fits all' for your engine code regardless of mileage or condition.
  • No diagnostic before mapping.
  • No warranty on the map.
