Best dash cams for UK roads in 2026 (and how to fit them)
Forget cigarette-lighter cables and dangling cameras. Here's what a properly fitted dash cam looks like, and the three units we install most often.
We fit a couple of dash cams every week at the Cambridge workshop, mostly to A14 commuters, Uber/Bolt drivers, and people who've had a near-miss they wish they'd recorded. Here's our short list.
Best all-rounder: BlackVue DR970X-2CH
4K front + 2K rear, parking mode, cloud upload over wifi/SIM. Industry standard for a reason. ~£420 unit + ~£90 hardwire fit.
Best budget: Viofo A229 Plus
2K front + rear, GPS, parking mode, ~£200 unit + ~£90 fit. Genuinely good footage, smaller and more discreet than the BlackVue.
Best for taxi / rideshare drivers: Nextbase iQ
Front, cabin and rear with audio and live cloud streaming. Designed for Uber/Bolt drivers — perfect for proving who said what.
Why pay to have it fitted?
- Cables routed inside the headliner, A-pillar and trim — invisible.
- Hardwire kit pulls switched and constant power so parking mode actually works.
- Battery cutoff voltage set so you don't kill your starter battery.
- Front and rear cameras connected without drilling.
