OEM ambient lighting retrofit: VAG, BMW, Mercedes coding explained

If your car has an ambient lighting menu in the dash but no lights, or the wiring's there but unused — we can code it to life properly.

Lots of modern Audis, Mercedes, BMWs and VWs left the factory with the wiring and software for ambient lighting present, but the lights themselves were a paid option you didn't tick. Good news: we can usually retrofit.

Audi & VW (MQB platform)

Cars like the A3 8V/8Y, A4 B9, Q3, Golf 7/8, Tiguan, Passat. We add the door, footwell, dash and console LEDs and code the ambient menu live in the MMI/Discover Pro. 32 or 64 colours depending on year.

BMW (G-series)

G20 3-Series, G30 5-Series, G05 X5 etc. Often the door panels already have the lighting strips fitted but disabled. We code via ISTA/E-SYS and you get the full ambient profile in iDrive.

Mercedes

C-Class, E-Class, GLC, GLE — we add the door cap LEDs, dash strip and footwell pods, and code with Vediamo/DTS so the colours appear in the MBUX comfort menu.

Why it's better than aftermarket

  • No app, no Bluetooth controller, no aftermarket button.
  • Colours change with drive mode if your car supports it.
  • Synced with door welcome animations and unlock sequence.
  • Resells with the car as a recognised feature.
